What type of toothbrush do you use? Is it manual or electric? Did you know that one has more benefits than the other? I've used a manual brush most of my life. Dentists have always told me that electric is better (& you see the commercials), but I've always stuck to the free brush I received after my cleaning. Why would I pay for an electric toothbrush when I get a free one twice a year? Well, here's why...
1. Electric toothbrushes have timers - did you know that you're supposed to brush your teeth for two minutes? You divide your mouth into fours and do each section for 30 seconds. With an electric brush, the vibrations pause after 30 seconds to let you know that it's time to switch sections. After two minutes, the brush stops. This is when you know you've completed the perfect brushing.
2. They're more effective at removing plaque - You're still brushing like normal, but there are extra vibrations and movements coming from the brush head that get deeper into your gum lines.
3. They're a lifesaver for people with disabilities - If you have arthritis or carpal tunnel, it can be painful to move your wrist around. With an electric toothbrush, the brush does most of the work for you, so you only need to move it between sections. No more forceful brushing that creates a strain on your wrist.

With my manual, I felt like my brushing only lasted 5 minutes and my mouth was immediately dirty again. I was always reaching for mints because it made me so self-conscious!
